The Belle River-On the Lake BIA  is one of more than 300 Business Improvement Areas in Ontario.  A BIA is an association of business people within a specified area who join together, with support from the muncipal government, in a self-help program aimed at stimulating local business.

Each commerical property and business within our BIA Area automatically becomes a member and those outside our boundaries or home based pay an Assocaite Membership Fee. Everyone benefits, so everyone pays.  A BIA arises from the retail and professional activities of a main street, but it also helps to stabilize and revitalize the surrounding community.

Each BIA is administered by a volunteer Board of Management, made up of members of that BIA who are elected by their fellow BIA members and approved by Council.  As our Ward Councillor, Tracey Bailey also serves on the Belle River-Ont he Lake BIA Board.

The mandate of each BIA is to improve business conditions in their own area.  As such, BIAs are vital to the economic health of  the community, and have done much to improve the prosperity of neighbourhoods across the city.

Here in Lakeshore, we will work to attract more customers to our member businesses by holding special events (Sunsplash is July 23-26, 2015 as well as seasonal promotions such as our Gobbler Giveaway, Trick or Treat Walk and the Annual Tree Lighting Celebration, and improving the streetscape along Notre Dame Street.  We have ambitious plans, and they won't happen overnight, but our goal is to make Belle River-On the Lake the best commercial district - and community - to live work and play in Ontario.

Come Experience Lake St Clair and all that Lakeshore has to offer in Belle River-On the Lake! With our waterfront Lakeview Park, Belle River Marina, and West Beach and over 140 businesses that are  happy t otake care of you, there is something for everyone.  Whether on land or on water, our Sunsplash Festival offers the most fun anyone can have for free!

Fun things to do!

There are endless ways to amuse yourself in the Belle River-Ont the Lake BIA.  Whether you want to walk, shop, eat, or play, we have it all here. People who like to get outdoors love us for our beautiful new Notre Dame Street, the waterfront trails and of course the Lakeview Park, Belle River Marina and the beach itself.

There is always some type of action happening in  our around town. In our downtown area the coffee shops are jumping, restaurants are serving up great food and the many stores make a vibrant shopping strip dotted with salons and professional services.

Bike, Walk, Run

Want to just get out and stretch your legs? Many locals stroll along Notre Dame or run or cycle along the Bike Path that runs right alongside the lake roads and through the  parks. Take it in all the way along the lake  if you like or bring your bikes or rollerblades, or just your shoes and yourself and you will have all you need to enjoy a day of fresh air. Whether you’re walking or rolling, you’ll have a good time. And when you’re done? Just wander up to one our local estabblishments for a drink or ice cream or a bite to eat or bring a snack and on a bench or picnic in the park!

Did you know that 67 cents of each dollar spent in our community STAYS in our community?

Please support our BIA businesses and shop local as often as you can!

Belle River - On the Lake Has It All!!

Knowing that there will be many upcoming challenges in our surrounding region (ie. a wavering economy in Windsor/Essex County, increased business, retail and big box development, etc.) the Belle River-On the Lake BIA is proactively increasing its efforts to stimulate business activity within its district.

Just some of the Belle River - On the Lake  Business Improvement Area's  proactive efforts include

  • The adoption and execution of a theme to further attract everyday consumers and tourists

  • A new, more interactive web presence

  • An improved business directory, both online and in print

  • More effective advertising and promotions

  • The move toward a more interactive, team-oriented business community
